Nestled in a corner at Al Hana Tower on Corniche Road Abu Dhabi, the road has various food outlets and its very busy street. You won’t miss the venue as its at the corner with the light colored wooden Furniture, Clean and nice décor, crisp ambiance with the lanterns and the very hospitable servers. The pleasant smell of cuisine creates striking similarity to Japanese aura of tranquil regional cuisine like sushi. My trip to Mikado resulted due to #ZomatoMeetup tasting session and I am so glad to find a new Japanese Food haven.
The staff out here is really friendly providing excellent service. Set-up is quite spacious within the restaurant an extended in long straight section however we were seated at right corner as soon as you enter the restaurant. It is more of a sushi station, around the preparation area for chef with counter setting having comfortable chairs. You get to see the preparation of the food and the session in turn was so interactive due to a lot of Q&A.
I had to catch with the food pace hence in drinks I ordered green tea (Japanese Sencha or matcha) and my partner ordered refreshing passion fruit drink, tangy and boasting of antioxidants. This culinary Journey has quite a wide spread menu however I didn’t want to miss out on any of the dishes hence I decided to taste small bite from each to roll on till the end. Everything that was put in front of me looked very appealing and taste harmonized. The first item to arrive on the table was much anticipated Edamame (Steamed, Spicy, & Gingered) we loved the steamed (with sprinkled sea salt) and spicy equally.
Next up was a gardened Sushi Platter, with varied colors on plate and was served in a customized platter with all edible flowers in it has 2 pieces of Uranaju and Hossomaki, rest of the 5 varieties (i-e salmon, whitefish, tune, Amaebi & Masago Nigiri) have 1pc each in it. Though I am not a big fan of sushi but literally finished 60 percent of it with wasabi and sauce, it was not at all weird eating raw fish at this time rather I literally devoured this sushi variation. I enjoyed my crunchy mizuna salad alongside to tamper the taste when required. This salad is by far the best mizuna we had with lotus roots, seaweed and their kaiso dressing giving it tangy taste.
Gyudon and tempura udon elated me to dream Japan. Bona fide flavor comprised of rice topped with beef and caramelized onions, flavored with dashi, soy sauce and mizin. It is a must try option being a perfect blend of flavors with tender meat. It might take you few minutes for your taste buds to adapt but will continue giving joy as a complete staple dish once adjusted.
The Tebasaki (shiitake mushroom stuffed chicken wings) which became an instant favorite was served with a sweet sauce that complimented the dish quite well – definitely worth a try. Last but not the least Cream Brulee & mochi. Cream Brûlée is one of my favorite desserts Though about second one well, It’s so difficult to find great mochi in UAE. So, we were excited. The Mochi Ice Cream was very different form of ice cream I have tried till now with soft centre. little chewy kind. It’s something like flavored fondant filled with cold cream its served in 3 different flavors. All three flavors were good but my personal preference being the blueberry. Over all my experience was really good and will be going back to try their other meals and Dubai Branch and their bakery specials. Once again thanks to fun #Zomato gang specially Rayyan for being such a great food enthusiast and a perfect host at arranging yet another wonderful foodies evening. We also appreciate staffs’ impeccable service.
