Meat Gala at Famous Dave’s Barbecue

 – Smokin’, Rib-alicious , Sauce-some & Beef-tastic

As rightly referred, Just because you put the word “famous” in front of your name doesn’t necessarily make it true. But in the case of Famous Dave’s Barbecue – it’s the concrete truth. We love this BBQ joint in Abudhabi Mall & now at Alwahda Mall.  It is one of those  “chain” barbecue restaurants by Tablez company that won’t disappoint you ever. The brisket was lean and not greasy at all,  the ribs were fall off the bone, and the chicken was nicely smoked and moist.  In short, they are only spreading the love of Pit BBQ around in town.

We went to newly opened Alwahda mall branch over late dinner. Dheeraj and his team were all set to welcome us at this 2nd branch in Abu Dhabi. The place was pretty crowded and noisy, means it’s already popular. As it’s a chain restaurant, one would expect the décor to be pretty much on the same theme (log and woods) which they designed artistically well in this new capacity. With display window kitchen, giving full exposure to smoke cooking from the kitchen to passersby till complimentary sauces on drum rolls at the entrance.

Swanky giant painted quotes on the front wall till 3D wrought iron bull structure in the wall,  the display won’t seize to amaze you till you give it a try. The ambiance is family friendly, and table set up was neat with a trash bucket & a roll of paper towel.  You will get a real sauciness shake with a variety of sauces (6 in total) to choose from. Let us take you to our food rundown.

We started off with Nachos and in appetizer, The Dave’s Sampler platter, I love the smoked salmon spread with crispy bread bites aside from chicken tenders and traditional wings. It also has Buffalo shrimps, Onion strings & Fried pickles with buffalo rage. We also had great interactive and display session with Chef Jean Strauss at his kitchen overseeing the show kitchen, getting familiarize with smoking techniques and method in giant on wheels smoker before start eating the famous meat cuts.

The journey from the table to the kitchen was awe-inspiring giving an idea of the wholesome processes going on behind the scenes before the extraordinary meat reaches to diner’s den.

Our favorite meat selections were the rack of lamb, country roasted style & fried chicken, and the Devil’s spit Burger. Our ordered meals came with delicious sides of mac & cheese & Sweet Corns. We also ordered Burnt Ends and got so thrilled to find them not too very sweet like last time. Later figured out that they have changed some recipe with the inclusion of Red onions and Jalapenos which is very satisfying indeed.

Smoked Rack of lamb we tasted here is so unique with Dave’s special lamb spices, and it’s smoked for good 3 hours. The apricot mint glaze on top is an addictive combo, this is hands down best & most succulent rack of lamb in the whole wide world. it was simply  – Smokin’, Rib-alicious , Sauce-some & Beef-tastic in our opinion!

We tried chicken in 2 different ways, crispy and grilled I personally like grilled way better in texture but the taste was flavorful in both case. The chicken was tender, briskets I never found dry here after literally dining here for over 5 times and their corn bread along with other sides was so on point! The creamy spinach was especially good. This time we also tasted the prime steak cut with garlic butter melting over the meat. It tasted delicious meat is succulent and maintained perfect rear.

Their feast for ribs, Country Roasted Chicken, Texas Beef Brisket with Creamy Coleslaw, Famous Fries, Beans, Corn, Corn Bread Muffins all served family style (serving well for 2 or 4) on a garbage can lid. Trash Can Lid?? Yes, you read that correctly.  Do check out around you the frames on the walls where you can get to know about Mr. Dave. From where he started and how he grew as Famous Dave’s.

It is quite inspiring story (as narrated in my previous review) where Dave used to smoke his ribs in his garage and because he didn’t have large enough platters to serve the crowd of friends and family, he would just serve everything on a clean garbage can lid… and that tradition continues today! Yes, Values.

Their famous waiters including our server Famous Nono are always ready to answer all the questions that we have about the barbecue, they also recommended me a new drink with less sugar. I tried Lime Cooler & loved the mix of sourness and sweetness. Our other drinks were Passion fruit Margarita and Strawberry Mojito they were both refreshing and delicious. In Desserts, we thoroughly enjoyed Banana pudding and pecan pie. Delicious.

Over all it was a great experience to dine in at Famous Daves. Tablez company always goes extra miles in terms of hospitality and greeting us so well across all the locations of their restaurants. Food was addictive. Indeed, this is one stop shop for our ribs and meat craving. The service is usually fantastic. I loved the meat quality, the portion size is massive. The menu says that it should feed 2-3, but  I think that it’s good for 3-4. There was so much food that we had leftovers for lunch the next day. I’m definitely coming back with my family. We highly recommend you the same and might bump into any of our readers at the same place soon. Until next time..
