Satisfying tastebuds Egyptian way-Koshari Street

Koshari Street is located at prime & one of the most vibrant destinations in the Capital i-e at Al-Falahi tower at Embassies District, Sultan Bin Zayed Street. We received an invitation by the restaurant management to come an discover the authentic taste of Egypt with Arab-Emirati twist.

Koshari is a bona fide road-side as well as staple food in Egypt. It’s nutritious & vegetarian(in origin) plus enjoyed by thousands daily. A naturally healthy pot of rice, pasta, lentils and chickpeas topped with zesty tomato sauce, caramelized onions and spicy mix is also popular in UAE. This national dish of Egypt is picking the pace and capturing the heart of foodies in Abu Dhabi at Koshari Street. While parking our car, we did witness the trendsetter culture where cars were hoping after every few minutes just to grab on to-go parcels on their delicious Koshari. However, it was an indeed a pleasant surprise to find an awesome dining in decor, excellent food, and service in their small and cozy restaurant on the mezzanine floor.

Koshari Street also has a set-up for small events planned and soon on a roll with a corporate food truck (a concept which is picking up pretty rapid in the Middle East). Their delivery service is also available along with bespoke catering for meetings and events. Currently serving only on their eponymous signature dish (koshari) along with yummy burgers & appetizers, their menu will soon be expanded to include a tempting choice of mains (Sfatt has explained and shown the photos). In the current menu, they offer some street food classics, both savory and sweet, complemented by choice of fresh juices, teas, and coffees.

We started off with Chef’s special Rustic Egyptian salads with fresh garden greens, kidney beans and corns topped with zesty dressings. Later we tasted Soups. I like vegetable clear soup better than seafood from the 2 we tasted. Our most favorite in hot & cold beverages were the Spice Republic & their richly roasted Arabic coffee for the true taste of Egypt.

Plain Koshari we savored was freshly prepared almost on daily basis in a glass display open kitchen by the dedicated chef. Using the finest ingredients that contain no artificial colorings or flavorings. All in all their Koshari was Low in calories & fat – which means it can be enjoyed as part of your healthy eating regimen. Also, its good for your heart – chickpeas, and lentils are rich in soluble fiber and low in saturated fat, helping to balance cholesterol levels. It is perfect for vegetarians being a complete meal in itself. But don’t worry about meat lovers they can serve it with Chicken & Beef too.

We also sampled their Koshari & Cheetos Burger; both were unique and good in taste. However the potato bun tends to dry it out sooner the sauce and fries presented were generous, and it’s a dish which was liked by both my kids.  Meat Meshaltet was ok.

Falafel we tried, was a mix of plain and cheese stuffed, both were delicious & Served With Curly Fries. Their Tahini sauce was prepared in-house and if their strength.

Two of the most delicious findings at Koshari street menu were crispy Potato, And Beef Croquettes served in tomato based curry decked with mint sauce & the dainty Shrimp Baneah i-e crispy batter fried shrimps. Preparation time was just perfect; all the food items arrived fresh and warm to the table.

In deserts, we tried their famous Meshaltet in Kinder Chocolate & Lotus flavor, and it was mouth-watering. Another classic dessert we highly recommend you to try is their Creamy Kunnafa – served with pistachio ice-cream (with dine-in only).

As mentioned the restaurant is serving the startup menu, however, you still have to wait for the main course for few weeks, as most menu items available now are for delivery car hops and munch appetizers for sit and dine in options too. Again they are quite filling for instance koshari itself along with great value for money as per the quality of food they serve. The menu is still lacking details along with each dish, however, the staff is well-oriented and can easily help you with the same.

We are looking forward to returning to review the main dishes and our rating is on tasting appetizers and Koshari only.
