Let’s Walk for Life on 14th November with ROTANA – Beat Diabetes

Rotana hotels in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain announced hosting the Walk for LIFE 2015 on November 14th, 2015 in collaboration with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), to raise awareness about diabetes and walk together “towards a healthy lifestyle”. Mahi Blog love the fact how Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana is always involved in social cause as well as  wellness activities like Pink Pilates, Charity & Social Awareness events.

The World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on November 14th and this year’s slogan is “Healthy living starts at breakfast”. As we all know, a healthy breakfast helps prevent blood sugar levels from getting too high and keeps you feeling full for longer. Whilst cereal and toast may be the quick option, sadly, these typically raise blood sugar levels rapidly and may leave you feeling hungry sooner than you planned.

“Rotana is honoured to be organizing its own mini-walk to encourage people to live a healthier life. We need to take care of our health and bodies by changing our habits”, said Greg Allan, Area Vice President Abu Dhabi and Al Ain for Rotana.

“Our habits are the most difficult ones to change but it is still important to lead a more active life in a sustainable way. For this reason, we aim at using the walkathon to educate our colleagues and others around us about this disease, the dangers of unhealthy lifestyle habits and the risk it poses to our loved ones. This is a great opportunity to recognize and reward ‘good behaviour’ and set an example for everyone”, added Greg.

“Our focus for the future should be centred around the prevention of diabetes and this can be achieved by making little lifestyle changes, which in turn lead to healthy lifestyle practices to reduce obesity and consequently decrease the chances of development of diabetes. This disease is one of the most prevalent ones in the UAE, and it is our priority to spread out the right information on how to deal with it and more importantly, how to avoid it”, said Abdulmajeed Al Zubaidi, Chief Medical Officer in SKMC.

From 10:00 am till 12:00 noon, Rotana colleagues from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain along with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City’s staff will walk together from Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana to the Heritage Village (UAE flag) and back to show their support and commitment for the cause. It will be the perfect opportunity to be educated about the dangers of diabetes and taking preventive measures against the disease.

SKMC’s Diabetes Nurse Educators will give advice on diabetes prevention, monitoring and education using a new educational tool known as ‘Conversation Maps’ and posters listing the signs and symptoms of diabetes. Healthy food and snacks will also be displayed by dieticians to raise awareness on healthy food. Likewise, different activities will be arranged for children including games, educational booths and other entertaining activities.
