Mercadito Night Brunch – Amerigos, Park Inn by Radisson Abu Dhabi, Yas Island.

Last week I got an invitation to taste Mexican foods at Amerigos Mexican Bar and Restaurant in Park Inn by Radisson Blu, a hotel located on Yas Island. At the rear of the Park Inn Hotel (fairly standard hotel) Amerigos restaurant isn’t perhaps the most stirring & swanky place to spend your Thursday evening in the literal sense but believe me, this is indeed an understated venue. We loved the terrace especially it was stunning, listening to Mexican Music and looking across the waters of Yas Island, is much satisfying.

Hola Patron! Let’s do the real deal. In food, we started with the Chef’s choice soup of the day and are glad not to skip chef’s recommendation here. Yes, guys these bowls of Creamy Soup of Corn and Mushroom was an epic starter.  Next up were the sharing portions on the table. Salsa and chips were the first to arrive in cute, colorful Market style bags/basket to collab with the theme inspired by Market food. Guacamole soon joined the delicious sauces league over the table; it was a creamy and dainty mixture of King ingredient avocado, onion, tomato, coriander leaves, and lime juice. Roughly smashed avo is always a winner as I hate slimy paste and grind texture of guacamole. Salsa with tomato and lime tasted delicious. Fresh ingredients were speaking loud out in each bite.

Then came another set of appetizers on wooden board platter, while we were munching on that tortilla, It was Popular street food Antojitos (translated as ‘little cravings’), consisted of loads of varieties. There are Traditional Quesadilla (if you recall my snaps it was those neat little triangles)  filled with the mushroom mixture. Then there are slightly oily chicken taquitos dorados (it was very well barbecued and served hot). And last, the mini pockets of shredded beef salpicon tostada was crunchy and tasty. Wait this is not it, best of all were the two jars. First round jar has lime-drenched ceviche de atun (tuna) and a small pineapple and cucumber salad with Tajín chili powder. Latter was super addictive, tangy and refreshing. It had all those essentials flavors sour, salty, sweet and chili hot.

Then came the show stopper main menu,  it was in the vivid red table top bucket grill. It was a meat lover’s trance, served searing and sizzling it has a selection of grilled meat options to share. Marinated US Flank Steak, Adobo Australian Lamb chops, free-range chicken breast are served with four exciting sides consisted of chargrilled corn-on-the-cob, charro beans, house salad and corn tortillas. Steak marination was perfect with the pertinent rear. I enjoyed Mexicanizing over these tender meat pieces along with spring onions and jalapeno toreado.

We dare to taste the ultimate spice level and chef was kindly obliged to serve us a small cup of Habanero Paste and Tajin sauce bottle on the table. Habanero put our tongue on fire Lucky for us that Tes Leches & Amerigos Flan came right in time as to tame down the fire. It was not overly sweet and is good in taste, however, my expectation level has raised to a great extent after enjoying a great course till that point and I was hoping something more striking to close the meal. Unfortunately, there are not many options for Vegetarian diners as this night feast has a set menu as above what we tasted. Also, I am not exceedingly impressed with the choices of desserts, but overall the brunch is great and catching up with the residents.

All in all with the bold taste of herbs and spices ‘Amerigos’ seemed to me one of the busiest restaurants I’ve seen on Yas Island. It is also in synch with the Market food theme having Lovely Atmosphere & entertaining Live Music. The staff is polite and convivial, a warm welcome by their Marketing team and orientation chat with Head Chef Jorge Rodriguez was established to make the evening more constructive.
