Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche

Located at the eastern tip of Abu Dhabi’s Corniche Road, the hotel is within walking distance of the seafront and close to the business district. Being part of the Capital Plaza Complex, all 280 hotel’s rooms and suites offer breath-taking views over the Arabian Gulf. There six restaurants and bars (Thai Silk&Spice, Corniche all day dining, Grills at Chill’O restaurant and lounge, Jazz&Fizz bar, French Bakery Corner and Le Café lobby lounge), Crystal ballroom, 10 meeting room, ballroom, signature So Spa and So Fit gym.

We recently got a chance to meet Kim Gates, Executive Chef of Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche at  another visit to the Hotel to enjoy their ever-famous (since it’s very first day) “Friday Brunch at Grills @ Chill’O. Here is some info about Executive chef before detailed Brunch review.

Kim Gates has Bachelor of Science (BS) from The University of Western Australia, HSC Major from Armadale SHS and HACCP Certification from The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. He has over 30 years of experience at international hotel chains. During his career he has worked in Australia, Russia (Moscow, Sochi), UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), Maldives, Republic of Vanuatu, Kingdom of Bahrain with hotels such as Sofitel, Starwood, FRHI, Movenpick, Radisson SAS, ANA Hotels and Melia. Kim Gates is a seasonal Sofitel Ambassador.  Prior to taking on his current position, Chef Gates worked at the award- winning Sofitel Bahrain Thalassa Sea and Spa resort from its pre-opening in 2011.

 

Chef Gates supervise existing restaurants at Sofitel Abu Dhabi (Thai Silk & Spice, Corniche all day dining; Grills @ Chill’O, French bakery corner, Le Café lobby lounge) as well as Club Millésime executive lounge, room service for 280 guest rooms and suites as well as banquets that can accommodate from 10 to 1,000 people.

Talking about the future plans, Kim Gates said “At the present we are working on new restaurant menus and concepts and Unique Outside Catering, which will be launched this spring.”

As mentioned by General manager of Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche, that Chef Gates knows how to transform cooking into an art, to arouse the senses of our guests.

New BBQ Brunch at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche

Grills @ Chill’O at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche is an outdoor restaurant and lounge, that combines the finest Mediterranean and Arabic flavors. Located on the Level P8 by the pool, the restaurant has a beautiful view over Corniche and is the perfect location to watch the sunset worthy of one thousand and one nights.

It has open kitchen, bar and air-conditioned private room, ideal for private parties. The restaurant’s menu offers a blend of Arabic and Mediterranean cuisines from mezzah, crispy calamari and mini burgers to grilled seafood platter and tiger prawns. While you can watch sport games on big screens, you can observe chefs who prepare your favorite meal at the open kitchen. Shisha menu is available upon request.

 

  

Chef Gates has already introduced a new Friday Brunch concept by the pool at outdoor Grills@Chill’O restaurant and lounge which highlights the talent of the culinary brigade at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche which consists of 52 chefs from 15 countries.

Set in gorgeous outdoor scenery by the pool, the brunch is a delicious food fest to enjoy with friends and family. We loved the variety, Chef Kim Gates and his culinary team prepared a comprehensive menu of over 200 dishes, presented at nine live cooking stations: Asian, Arabic, Moroccan, Japanese, Italian, Indian, Western and more.

My kids and even ours favorite was an exclusive Moulin Rouge room filled with French pastries offers 29 types of cakes as well as waffles, crepes, fruits, ice cream, fruits, etc.

Apart from delightful culinary journey, brunch guests are entertained by Luna Soul live music band from noon until sunset. Shisha menu is available upon request.

The merriment doubles when the lucky draw took place also where many dining vouchers are given away to the diners making evening even more special.
