Simple ingredients, cooked incredibly well !
We tasted the traditional roasts at The Sportsman’s Arms recently. They are available from 12pm-11pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yes, they are now even offering the same on Friday due to customer demand. The extra day means more beef, lamb and turkey options will now be available at this family-friendly venue. Due to huge popularity we decided to give it a try to this offering as we really enjoyed our previous venture of Jacks Terrace Opening party.
Taste:
The hearty mains of succulent meat include roast striploin of beef, leg of lamb, and turkey. They were served with a selection of sides like sweet potato mash, cauliflower cheese, green beans, gravy, and Yorkshire pudding. We tried all three options in Beef, turkey & lamb the accompanying sauces were delicious especially mint and mustard. Beef was the best cut that melt in the mouth literally with amazing flavors. It has gone through some long and extensive stages of bathing, marinating and steaming. My husband’s cheeky lamb was not as tender but tasted good. Then came our third trial of turkey and I was not disappointed here too!
Each dish was nicely decorated and was accompanied by great sides. Our table was wowed by the look, smell and taste of the food. The chef certainly knows how to roast and we only wished we had room to eat it all again. After my food I was full quite quickly, so took a little break to sit outside on terrace and enjoy coffee.
For a sweet ending we tried Apple crumble with ice-cream. It was sweet and sour and tasted lip-smacking. Another dessert was the sticky toffee pudding. It’s the best I have had so far in Abu Dhabi. Sweetened with dates, gooey with perfect browning of sugar. Simply gorgeous. I can positively go again for this dish alone.
Ambiance / Set-up:
It was definitely not quiet, first being a gastropub, having lively game lovers and team-hooting fellows. Then it’s excitement of each goal & victory and the perfect sound system makes it pretty loud. However best part is the seating set-up and crowd distribution, hence you may easily choose a spot on terrace to enjoy your peace and moment. Its’s a smashing location busy at the weekends with the sports loving community.
Size:
Portions offered were pretty generous. You can enjoy it for long along with many healthy sides. Staff and services are top-notch, it’s a must for us to spend 2-3 or even more hours to spend at the place on each visit as it’s pretty lively.
Sports and Music:
Are you missing on quality sport’s viewing in a great set-up with friends?! Well It’s a perfect place for it! I would say a very friendly place to watch a game It has two big screens at either end of the main hall, casual atmosphere, Traditional Roast and amazing food. Staffs are very informative without being intrusive.
Family Friendly:
The restaurant also features a kids terrace with soft play area and climbing frame with beautiful alfresco dining space. Terrace also has a view of the tennis court. There’s no better place to enjoy it when the weather’s really good.
They have recently introduced Kids’ Portions of Roast Dinner. Yes, we are talking about those tiny creatures at home, just bring them along and enjoy with your children. This kid’s offering costs AED55, while an adult portion priced at AED95 (or AED115 for a mixed choice of meats) – meaning a family of four can enjoy the All Day Roast for just AED300. Available from 12pm-11pm. Roasts have become a firm favourite at this family gastropub and the Irish-American venue is keen to see more families enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and top quality food.
The food being delicious Sportsman’s Arms has proved their mark and consistency with these Traditional roast offers too. We rate them 4/5. Come along with the entire family to enjoy a traditional roast dinner that’s now even greater in value.
